USB 3.0 is fully backwards compatible with USB 2.0 host busses. Essentially, a USB 3.0 host bus should function in the same manner, but depending on the additional features employed by the host bus adapter vendors it may interfere with the normal operation of USB 3.0 devices such as the Fantom Drives products. Begin with checking with the USB 3.0 host bus adapter vendor for newer or revised firmware and/or drivers for your product and operating system.

On-Board USB 3.0 host connections

The following features have been known to cause USB 3.0 storage to not initialize correctly. The controls are usually found in the system BIOS, in the advanced menu under both the USB sub menu and the on board devices sub menu.

  1. Disable USB 3.0 UASP (or "turbo" mode) if enabled for your host bus (eg  'boost' technology that is bundled with the motherboard ASUS USB 3.0 products) drivers.
  2. Make sure the "Legacy USB 2.0 support "option is enabled.
